Meldrum Messages - Friday 25th September 2026

It’s been a positive week at Meldrum.  Our netball after school club has now started and a good number of senior pupils are signed up to take part.  They are being coached by sports leaders from DCHS alongside a member of the Active Schools West Lothian team, Zara.  Zara has been assigned to Meldrum PS until December as part of her trainee programme and will be working with some small groups to develop a range of skills through physical activity.  These include some activities to support development of gross motor skills in our infant department as well as working with P6 pupils on the Playground Leaders programme.  We look forward to having her with us on a Wednesday in the coming weeks.

We are also going to be hosting some college students who are undertaking various courses on their route to working in schools.  They will be based across the school supporting learning.  Some classes may also be welcoming teaching students over the year, parents of children in these classes will be kept up to date about this.

As you may know, we are currently within “Fairtrade Fortnight”  This is an annual event designed to increase the profile of the importance of fair trade which aims to ensure that disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a fair deal for their produce.  The theme this year is ” Do it Fair” which celebrates the difference that can be made when people choose Fairtrade and campaign as part of a UK-wide movement calling for a fairer system behind the things consumed every day.  The children will be talking about Fairtrade in classrooms throughout the fortnight and you may find them looking out for fairtrade products when you visit the supermarket with them.
